Marie G. says about Whole Foods Market:

Whole Foods is always there to help! I did not want to eat out today (Easter Sunday) but I did not want to slave away for hours in the kitchen either. I ordered delivery from Whole Foods via Amazon Prime and got the best solution.

I ordered a 1 pound block of ground lamb, pre prepared and seasoned sweet potato wedges, prepared and seasoned green beans with shallots, iceberg lettuce with prepared tzatziki sauce and a container of heirloom cherry tomatoes.
I just need a glass of wine!

Bella Cora Bakery

Bella Cora Bakery

Bella Cora Bakery is a French-inspired bakery with two locations in El Paso, Texas. The bakery opened its doors in 2012 with a simple goal- to bring new styles of pastries to the local area.

Now, led by Chef Jessica Zaragoza, who was trained in traditional French cuisine and patisserie in Le Cordon Bleu, Ottawa, and The French Pastry School in Chicago. She hopes to integrate more classical techniques to bring the best pastries to El Paso.

Jean C. says about Bella Cora Bakery:

I come to El Paso to visit family but never really explored the area much. This time around, I was determined to try some places now that more places are opening back up, and I’m all about supporting local businesses, even if I am not a local.

Bella Cora Bakery was just a few min away from where I was staying so I gave it a try. The first thing I noticed as I approached the store was the sign, “No Mask, No Service.” I don’t care what’s “allowed” or that some people don’t “believe” in masks–support your local biz and respect their workplaces.

In I go with my mask on, I was immediately greeted by beautiful baked goods and a friendly voice saying hello. I said it was my first time, the man gave me a few seconds to process the beautiful baked goods, and answered all my questions like a veteran host of a baking competition.

I bought a morning bun, macarons, Bunny’s Butt cake (omg so cute), and a lemon bar. Some interesting macaron flavors you can find here are Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast. I also took Rose and Coffee.

I love that the packaging is recyclable and branded with their logo stamped on the box. Such a humble looking store from the outside, but there’s magic happening inside. Definitely will visit again!

Bowie Bakery

Bowie Bakery

Bowie Bakery is located at 901 S. Park Street in El Paso’s historic “Segundo Barrio”, was originally established in 1951 and was later sold by the original owners to Mr. Angel Marquez.

Mr. Marquez, or “Don Angel” as he was affectionately known by friends and loved ones, began baking bread at the age of thirteen in his hometown of Sombrerete, Zacatecas in Mexico.

As a young man, he moved to El Paso and began working in a bakery, where he met his wife, Maria Guadalupe Marquez. The couple relocated to California but returned to El Paso in 1971.

In 1971, bringing with him many years of experience in the fine art of baking traditional Mexican pastries, Don Angel bought the little bakery that, to this day, sits at its original location on the corner of 7th and Park Street.
Throughout the 35 years of ownership by the Marquez Family, and after expanding the original building into the actual building, Bowie Bakery has become El Paso’s premier establishment of baked goods.

Sadly, Don Angel passed away in July of 2005, but, carrying in his father’s footsteps, Juan Marquez continues the family tradition of making El Paso’s favorite “pan dulce”. Juan Marquez and the bakery staff continue offering to customers and friends the same quality and good service offered since the first time the bakery opened.

Aimee D. says about Bowie Bakery:

If you’re in town visiting and stay in hotel row or in the middle of nowhere north of everything like I was, this tiny hole in the wall is pretty out of the way regardless of what Google Maps tells you.  I wasn’t the driver but I felt like we maneuvered through a lot of different streets to get there.  Street parking only but that wasn’t an issue.  We parked very close to the entrance.

There was a guy outside who only spoke Spanish and I didn’t catch what he said so I could tell you why he was sitting there with a bunch of stuff… but he seemed very in earnest and nice.  🙂  There was a mom and her daughters there in front of us so we only waited for maybe a few minutes on a week day afternoon.  I

t’s a little intimidating to go in there if your Spanish isn’t fluent.  The lady who helped us did speak English but you could tell Spanish was her go-to.  I asked her for half a dozen tamales (I don’t know if there are different kinds or not because I only saw one type of bag in the frig behind the display) and a slice of the tres leches cake for my BF.  It’s pretty cheap.  All that came to $12.85.

Tamales are very good.  BF said his abuelita makes the best but he was pretty impressed by these and said he’d go back (he’s a native to EP) and get more.  He also enjoyed the cake.  He destroyed it even with lactose intolerance.

Wish I’d taken pics but we were hell bent on getting that cake in the frig once we left and like I mentioned we stayed nowhere near Bowie.  If I end up going back for business to the airport, I’m definitely going to hit this place up again!
