I’d been to every single furniture store within a 30-mile radius of Iowa City looking for a reasonably-price couch that was stylish and comfortable. Turns out if you want Craigslist prices on couches you’d better be okay with old, discolored, saggy furniture that’s been who knows where. And you’d better have a truck or hulk guns to haul it yourself (neither of which I have).
I was getting discouraged and resigned to sitting on the floor of my empty house indefinitely when I stumbled upon this place in my furniture hunt. It’s not just a consignment store, but also carries new furniture on catalogue–all you have to do is order it. Not sure why reviews are so low on Yelp, but they’re respectable on Google and Facebook. I didn’t Yelp this place and so I wasn’t biased going in.
Jeff was so helpful. He showed me around the store and sat on couch after couch with me. He stood with me at the kiosk playing with couch styles and answered incessant questions like “What about that one?” over and over. Let me tell you about the prices on couches in that kiosk! They start high but are $50 or so cheaper the more you scroll. I got a super cute cream colored couch for $399, plus $55 delivery!!
The only risk was I didn’t know how it felt sitting on it since they didn’t have the exact model on the floor. But Jeff showed me some cloth material that he thought was the same as the couch, and I went with it. I’m so pleased I did. The service was amazing and I’ve fallen asleep on my couch almost every day that I’ve had it. It’s perfect. In all from store to delivery took about 2 weeks, but it was worth it.

In 1972, Bills Brothers opened its doors for business in downtown Cedar Rapids. After years of gradual expansion, they moved their showroom across the street in 1999. Their new store doubled the size of our showroom!
In 2008, the flooding of the Cedar River severely affected the business. Nearly all of their merchandise was lost. Their showroom and all five of their warehouses suffered damage.

Top Drawer has some really nice second hand items for sale.
My dad and I stopped in here while we were waiting on some Fong’s pizza (Fong’s is located a couple of storefronts down the block from Top Drawer). I found the shop to be well curated and thoughtfully laid-out; not overstuffed with merchandise. Everything was very clean and tidy.
Top Drawer had some pretty ornaments for sale and I was surprised by the more than reasonable prices. Prices on the tchotchkes and knickknacks were fair. The gently used, high-quality furniture was priced as such and definitely nowhere in my price range, but the pieces they did have were really pretty and probably worth the investment.
The shop sells a ton of costume jewelry, which isn’t necessarily my thing either, but pretty to look at. If you’re a fan of costume jewelry, for sure visit Top Drawer.
There was only one other customer in the shop when we arrived who was talking the ear off of the woman working. We were never greeted by said woman even after the gentleman left. Something about not being greeted (especially in small speciality shops like these) really irks me. I’m not taking off a star for lack of customer service during this visit, but would if it happened when/if I patronize the shop again. Everyone appreciates a friendly “hello!”
I recommend Top Drawer. Expect estate/tag sale pricing–because that’s their speciality.
